Casablanca was founded by Berber fishermen and was known as Anfa and served as an important port to the Phoenicians, Merenids and Romans. The Portuguese destroyed this port and again rebuilt it and finally abandoned it. It was the Spanish who gave the current name to the city. It is now the largest city of Morocco as well as the largest artificial port of the world.
The King Hassan II Mosque- It is a relatively new mosque and the largest one in Morocco with tallest minaret of the world. It is open to the non Muslims and has beautiful tile work and a huge hammam at its basement.
Old Medina- t is a small walled town in the north of the city. Visit this simple yet lovely place while you are touring Casablanca
Mahkama du Pacha-It is a building of Hispanic Mooric architecture and has beautifully decorated rooms. See the beautiful stuccoes and wrought iron railings with curved wooden ceilings and delicately tiled floors.
